| Born in England on May 23, 1891, George Carvel Ashley moved to northern California in 1921 and settled in Corte Madera. While working for Gump's Department Store in San Francisco, he painted and etched scenes of the San Francisco Bay area.
He died at Marin General Hospital on April 19, 1971.
He was a member of the California Etchers Association and in the 1920s, exhibited with the Marin County Art Association.
