A portrait painter, George Allen was born in Connecticut, but the location is unknown. In 1850, the Census listed him as living in Texas with his parents on a farm near Circleville in Williamson County.
Records indicate that the family arrived in Texas about 1836, and by the 1850s, he was painting portraits of public figures including members of the family of Sam Houston.
Work by this artist is in the collection of the Harris County Heritage Society in Houston.
