| Hal Akins was born in Spokane, WA on May 27, 1924. Akins studied at Washington State University. During WWII he was a combat paratrooper in the South Pacific. While there, he acquired malaria and began painting while recooperating. He taught art for 29 years in Laguna Beach while acting as head football coach for the Laguna Beach High School. He was a board member of the Festival of Arts for 38 years. His paintings were shown regularly at the Sawdust Festival and the National Watercolor Society. He died in Spokane on April 17, 2008.
