This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Hale Bower Anthony was an art supervisor of the Gloucester Public Schools, received her art training as an undergraduate and graduate student at the Massachusetts School of Art.  Subsequently studied water color painting with Charles Martin of Columbia University, NY, and Oliver Smith at Rockport.  Master’s Degree in education was received from Tufts College.  For eight years she has taught water color painting to members of the Gloucester Adult Education Classes.  Works of her public school students have been chosen for exhibition in the Massachusetts section of the National Scholastic Exhibition. 

Has studied and worked extensively in stage craft and pageantry, and in the field of decoration has done a number of recreation rooms for industrial plants.  Member of the Society of Independent Artists of Boston, the National Association of Women Artists of New York City, the North Shore Arts and Rockport art Associations.  At the latter, in 1951, her painting “Market” was awarded the Saturday Sketch Group Prize for the most original watercolor of the exhibition.
