Biography from Peyton Wright Gallery:
Horace (Horus) Armistead was an American painter, best known for his set and costume designs for a variety of plays, ballets, and operas in the 1930s through the 1950s. The Houghton Library at Harvard University's Theatre Collection is the repository for 273 of his costume designs for plays, ballets and operas including the original productions of Menotti's The Consul, Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress, and Balanchine's 1953 production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker.

Designs for several Loeb Drama Center productions are also included. Related printed material and four letters from Stravinsky supplement the designs.

Container List includes set designs for Arms and the Girl, Carmen, The Consul Daphnis et Chloe, Falstaff, Faust, Fidelio, Love's Labour Lost, Marriage of Figaro, Media, The Nutcracker, Pepito and Punch and the Child.
