| | Born in York County, South Carolina, he died in Seffner, Florida. Somewhat of a wanderer, he spent years traveling and working as a member of the U.S. Army and a road-construction crewman. When arthritus forced him to retire in 1969, his hobby of painting became his full-time work. He worked primarily in oils, and his subject matter is combined historical topics and humorous incidents. He loved to please an audience and wrote: "I've taught myself all that I know about painting. I like to paint things that happened in the past. . . . That way you have something that everybody will like." |
