| A copperplate and wood engraver, miniaturist, caricaturist and designer, James Akin was born in Charleston, South Carolina but spent most of his life in Philadelphia where he exhibited at the Philadelphia Academy. He also worked in Salem and Newburyport, Massachusetts.
