The following, submitted March 2005, is from the artist.
Born in 1944 and reared in Selma, Alabama, Jere Allen completed high school, worked at a television station in Montgomery, Alabama and then joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve. During that time out of school, he decided to attend Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida. In his second year, while taking his first formal painting course, Jere Allen fell in love with painting largely due to the enthusiasm and encourag (showing 500 of 4415 characters). |
