As a female Jessie Andrews had several firsts at the University of Texas at Austin: first woman to enroll in the school, first woman graduate, and first woman to join the faculty.
Jessie Andrews became a landscape painter and poet as well as a teacher. She was born in Washington Mississippi, and in 1873 arrived in Texas with her family, which included her artist sister, Fannie Andrews. She started classes at the University of Texas in 1883 and graduated in 1886, receiving a diamond and g (showing 500 of 1162 characters). |
