Art historians Bruce Weber and Arthur F. Jones have called Louisville artist, John Bernhard Alberts one of Kentucky's finest early 20th century painters. Alberts set up his studio in Louisville in 1914, but the onset of multiple sclerosis four years later ended his career. Alberts had an illustrious list of teachers, studying with Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy and with Frank Benson and Edmund Tarbell in Boston.
