This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following, from the website of the New School for Social Research, is excerpted from a description of an upcoming lecture by John Armleder at the New School in New York City on May 1, 2006:

"Sculpture is a medium-in-motion, eluding concise definition. Linked to urbanism, architecture, and acoustic and visual perception, it is a charged territory that mirrors political, social and technological developments.  As part of exploring how contemporary artists think about sculpture, SculptureCenter, in collaboration with the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School, presents a series of lectures in which mid-career artists discuss specific works, bodies of work, texts, or personal anecdotes to outline their own version of sculpture’s history.

John Armleder, Born in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1948, John Armleder was involved with Fluxus in the 1960s and 1970s, when he created performances, installations and collective activities.  In 1969, he was a founding member of the Fluxus group Ecart in Geneva.  Armleder is a conceptual artist whose work crosses disciplines to include sculptures, paintings, installations, performances, music, or publications.

In 2001, Le Magasin in Grenoble presented a major one-person exhibition of his work. Besides many solo exhibitions worldwide, his works have been presented in international shows such as the Paris Biennial (1975), Venice Biennale (Swiss Pavilion, 1986), Sydney Biennial (1986), Documenta (Kassel, 1987), Lyon Biennial (1993), Posthuman (Castello di Rivoli, 1993), Open Ends (MoMA, New York, 2000), among many others. Armleder lives and works in Geneva and New York."
