Johnny Aculiak is an established Inuit (Eskimo) artist. He was born on one of the Hopewell Islands, just north of the Inuit (Eskimo) community of Inukjuak on May 18, 1951. Although he is best known for his carvings, Aculiak has also tried drawing and jewelry making.
Johnny Aculiak learned to carve on his own in 1968 and has since worked with materials such as stone, antler, ivory, and whalebone. He prefers to work with serpentinite (a natural stone similar to soapstone but harder). < (showing 500 of 1408 characters). |
