Kim Anno was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up in the 1970's. The struggle her family experienced to be homogeneous Americans was likely challenging, but later became fertile ground for making art. Her father is half-Japanese, half-Polish; her mother is half Native American, half Irish.
Anno earned her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1985.
