Nemesio Antúnez was born in 1918, in Santiago de Chile. He was an architect, painter and printer. In 1943, he studied printing with W. Hayter in New York. His painting evolved from a strong realism to more abstract and spiritual. In 1957, Antúnez won a prize at the Sao Paulo Biennial.
