This biography from the Archives of AskART:
An editorial cartoonist for The Herald Tribune in New York City and then for trade magazines, Paul Arlt spent most of his career in Washington DC doing cartoon subjects of political figures going about the nation's business.   He also did fine-art painting in watercolor and oil, often of famous national monuments.   In 1940, as a WPA artist, he completed a mural in Enterprise, Alabama for the United States Treasury Department, and that mural is now in the town's public library.  Other commissons were paintings of the Gemini and Apollo space missions for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Arlt was born in the Bronx of New York, graduated from Townsend Harris High School and Colgate University.  During World War II, he was in the Marine Corps as a combat artist and received a purple heart for shrapnel wounds.  He was married for sixty-five years, until his death, to MacClaire Arlt.

Exhibition venues of his work include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of City of New York, National Gallery of Art and Art Institute of Chicago.
