| A painter, sculptor and teacher, Scribner Ames was born in Chicago,
Illinois in 1908. She received a Ph.D. from the University of
Chicago, and attended the school at the Art Institute of Chicago and
was a scholar at the Chicago School of Sculpture.
In addition to studies in Switzerland and Germany, she also studied
under Jose de Creeft and Hans Hofmann in New York City. During
her art career she held various art instruction positions at schools in
New York City and Chicago.
She was a member of the Arts Club of Chicago, The Oriental Institute,
Chicago Quadrangle Club, Chicago Archeological Institute and the
Renaissance Society.
Ames held many solo exhibitions of her works in the United States and
abroad including the Netherlands, West Indies, Paris and in
Holland. She also exhibited at the Salons of America, Society of
Independent Artists and at the Closson Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Later in her career she turned to writing, with much of it based upon her experiences as an artist in Europe. |

| A Chicago native, born in 1908, Scribner Ames was a sculptor and
painter. She recieved a PhD from the University of Chicago and
studied at the Art Institute's School of Sculpture in Chicago.
Her exhibitions include the Cultural Center (Netherlands), West Indies
1947, Galerie Chardin (Paris) 1947, Circle Universite Aix en Provence
1950, and the Esher Surrey Gallery (Cincinnati). Her awards
include the Bronze Award for Young Satyr and Friend at the Illinois
State Museum 1962. |
