Biography from Simic Galleries:
Richard Aaron was born in DeQueen, Arkansas.  He has been drawing since he was a young boy, and he first started acrylic painting in 1984 while attending college.  In 1987 he switched to oils.  Aaron was a professional graphic artist for eight years. During this time he took on many freelance assignments and fine art commissions.  Most of the artist’s evenings were spent in developing his specialty, still-life surrealistic paintings.

Aaron's work depicts a versatility of subject matter in a classical realistic style.  Fantasy illustrators Boris and Frazetta, and the works of Norman Rockwell first inspired the artist.  Studying these artists and their techniques led him to the works of Caravaggio, Rubens, Rembrandt and other old masters.  His attention was then drawn to the highly realistic paintings of the Dutch and Flemish still-life painters.  The influence of all these artists and many contemporary painters has guided Aaron into developing his skills as a still-life artist as well as a figurative painter.

Richard Aaron earned a A.A. degree in Commercial Art from San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas and a B.A. in Commercial Art from the University of Houston at Clear Lake.  Much of what he has learned about painting, however, has come from reading and conversations with other artists.  In all of his paintings Richard tries to portray a story, create a mood or pose a question.  He works primarily in oil on carefully prepared canvases or masonite panels.
