Studied with William Hekking and John Fraser at the Univ. of Kansas, Lawrence. After moving to California in 1921, he obtained his M.A.degree at the Univ. of California, Berkeley where he was a pupil of Eugen Neuhaus, and further studied with Spencer Macky and Maynard Dixon. He was head of the art department at San Mateo Junior College from1924-28, Riverside Junior College from1928-35, and San Francisco City College from 1935 until his death.
