Sam Ash is from Sioux Lookout and was born in 1951. Born Ojibwa, he was adopted by a Metis couple after his mother died during childbirth. He began painting at age 6 when he went to the Ontario School for the Deaf in Belleville.
Over time, his paintings were added to collections including the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Hull and the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City, Michigan.
