Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Satoru Abe became a sculptor of mod objects, many of them organic botanical, reflecting his South Sea culture and natural environment.
He attended McKinley High School and took art lessons from Shirley Russell. In 1948, focused more on painting than sculpture, he decided to pursue an art career in New York City and attended the Art Student's League where he studied with George Grosz, Louis Bouche and Jon Carrol. He married a fellow student and returned to Hawaii (showing 500 of 905 characters). |
