Stephen Alke (1874-1941)
Known as a portrait and landscape painter, illustrator, and designer of posters and art glass, Stephen Alke was born in Augusta, Kentucky, May 14, 1874. He was active in Cincinnati from 1891 to 1901, and during those years he studied part time at the Cincinnati Art Academy under Frank Duveneck, Louis H. Meakin, Vincent Nowottny, and Henrietta Wilson. In the early 1900’s, he worked as a commercial illustrator in Springfield (Clark), then (showing 500 of 1101 characters). |
