Susan Abbott was born in 1951 and graduated from Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Summa Cum Laude. She earned her Master of Fine Arts degree from the Hoffberger School of Painting where Grace Hartigan was her advisor. She also worked with Mauricio Lasansky at the Graduate School of Printmaking at the University of Iowa. She has had many one-man shows in the Washington, D.C. area; her work has appeared in group shows across the country. She is also represented in many selected collections.
Abbott paints still lives in watercolors with a technique that has been described as 'awesome'. Each painting contains an enormous amount of objects that are objects belonging to a contemporary human being, maintaining a narrative content throughout. Each painting is done with much clarity, using at the same time bright colors in a skillful manner.
