Biography from Butler Institute of American Art:
| A contemporary printmaker and sculptor, Suzanne Anker studied art at Brooklyn College under Ad Reinhardt, Jimmy Ernst and Harry Holtzman. She later completed her education at the University of Colorado, where she received her MFA in 1976. After graduating, Anker taught art at both the University of Colorado and at Washington University, St. Louis.
She returned to New York in 1978, and later became the Director of the Painting and Drawing program at New York University. Suzanne Anker began experimenting with the paper casting technique as early as 1974. Exploring both the sculptural and printmaking possibilities of this new medium she emerged as a leading pioneer and exponent of the art. Concentrating upon the primary forms of nature, Anker introduced such objects as boughs, leaves and shells into her three-dimensional, textural compositions.
Her cast paper art became the subject of one person exhibitions in such cities as Washington, Minneapolis, Chicago and Milan, Italy. Recently (in 2001) her work was featured at the Getty Museum.
During the past decade Suzanne Anker has explored connecting links between art and genetics. She is currently teaching art theory at the School of Visual Arts, New York.
Major museums that include Anker’s art in their permanent collections are the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; the Smithsonian Institute; the Santa Barbara Museum of Art; Denver Art Museum; the St. Louis Art Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
