This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Born in New York City of Russian parents, Sylvia Alberts is one of the few 20th century folk artists interested in still lifes, and her's have a jewel-like clarity. She also does portraits from old photographs.
Alberts was educated at Northwestern University and at New York University. She became a full-time painter in 1966 and usually works in oil on canvas or masonite and occasionally in ink. She spends her winters in Manhattan and summers on Monhegan Island off of Maine. |
