| Tony Armeni, a native Ohioan and teacher of sculpture at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio, is known for his abstract and semi-abstract sculpture in a variety of media including ceramics, spray paint, plastic and metals. Animals such as penquins are among his subjects as are explorations of line and shape through geometric works.
Armeni received an MFA in Fine Arts from Youngstown State University in 1982 and a BFA in Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati in 1987. He was the recipient of several official recognitions including the Juror's Award-Alumni Artists' Exhibition at the McDonough Museum of Art in Youngstown in 1999; a Purchase Prize-Alumni Artists' Exhibition at the McDonough Museum of Art in 1997; a Juror's Award-55th Area Artists' Annual at The Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio; and Juror's Award-Hoyt Regional at the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts in New Castle, Pennsylvania in 1993; Best of Show - Group Invitation at Apple Gallery, Youngstown, OH in 1987 and the Governor's Special Recognition Award- for replica of the Statue of Liberty used in Ohio Celebrates Liberty, Cincinnati and Columbus.
Armeni's work is displayed outside the McDonough Museum of Art and in the collection of the Butler Museum of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio.
