Biography from AskART:
| The older son of famous naturalist John James Audubon and his wife Lucy, Victor Audubon, like his younger brother John Woodhouse Audubon devoted his life to helping his father. Victor's talent was in landscape painting and by the 1840s, he had a strong market for his landscapes in New Orleans.
He assisted his father in the "Quadrupeds" project, which was the depicting of every possible kind of mammal they could visually document. Victor did the backgrounds as well as plants and other nature enhancements to the subject. He also spent much time handling the business details of his father's work which included working with lithographers and overseeing printers to insure that copies were drawn exactly.
Long years of intense activity and worries about money relative to publishing the "Quadrupeds" likely shortened the lives of the two Audubon sons. (Many people had cancelled their orders because of promised publication dates not being met. The work was finally completed in 1848). Victor died in 1860 at age 51 and his brother two years later at age 49.
