| Wayne Andersen, noted professor of art history at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is also a lecturer on art and art history, a writer, and painter. He received his B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley, and went on to complete his M.A. and PhD in Art History and Archeology from Columbia University. Anderson was the recipient of several fellowships, including the William Bayard Cutting Traveling Fellow in Columbia University, 1962-63; Belgian-American CRB Fellow, Summer, 1963; Ford Foundation Fellow in the Humanities. 1963-64; American Council of Learned Societies Fellow, 1970; New York Academy of Science, 1992.
His academic positions have included: Professor of the History, Theory, and Criticism of Art and Architecture, Department of Architecture, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1964-1986; Visiting Professor, Visual and Environmental Studies, Harvard, 1975-1977, (on loan from MIT); Visiting Professor, Yale University, 1969-70, while also at MIT; Visiting Professor, Columbia University. Summer 1967; Visiting Professor, Harvard University. Summer 1966; Visiting Professor, University of Minnesota, 1961-62, concurrent with being Senior Curator of the Walker Art Center.
He has held numerous museum positions and been responsible for the organization of many exhibitions, including his work as Director for the Hayden Gallery of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; the sculpture exhibition for the American Express Pavilion at the New York Worlds Fair of 1964; and as Paris correspondent for the Museum of Modern Arts Rodin exhibition 1962-63.
Andersen has also served as a consultant on matters of art and architecture for the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as for AT&T, and IBM.
He is author of countless articles and several books, including This Is How I want You To Remember Me, Boston, 1996, a catalogue of his paintings which were shown at Creiger-Dane Gallery, Boston. Among the books he has authored are The Writings of a Savage, Paul Gauguin, American Sculpture in Process, and Cezannes Portrait Drawings.
