Born in Kansas, William Allison became an illustrator of western and historical subjects for the Bobbs Merrill Company, and was a member of the Society of Illustrators. He studied at the John Herron Art Institute and the Chicago Art Academy in Chicago, and from the 1920s worked in New York City. He also lived on Long Island.
Among the books he illustrated are "Heroes of Liberty" and "Women in American History".
