This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A wood engraver and designer, Charles Bauerle was in Cincinnati, Ohio where he was a partner of Henri Lovie (1829-1875) from 1856 to 1859.  They produced illustrations for Man-of-War Life: A Boy's Experience in the United States Navy (Cincinnati, 1856), The Merchant Vessel: A Sailor Boy's Voyages to See the World Cincinnati, 1856), and The Book of the Great Railway Celebrations of 1857 (New York, 1858).  The partnership ended when Lovie moved to New York City in 1860.
