Mary Orne Bowditch (1883 – 1971)
Mary Orne Bowditch, known as Mea or Orne, studied sculpture at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School* with Bela Pratt and at the Academie Colarossi* in Paris with Antonin Injalbert and Paul Wayland Bartlett.
She became best-known for her sculpted portraits, usually done in marble, terracotta*, and plaster, which tend to have a smooth finish. Descended from a prominent Boston family, Bowditch was forced to balance her career (showing 500 of 1287 characters). |
