This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Little is known about his life except that Joseph Dunkerly, (Dunkerley or Dunckerley) was active in Boston between 1784 and 1785.  He advertised in the "Independent Chronicle" and lived on North Square in a house he rented from Paul Revere.

In 1785, he advertising his intention of opening a drawing school in association with John Hazlitt, and Dunkerly was one of a series of artists who rented John Smibert's studio years after that artist's death.  He was still working in the United States as late as 1787, but later went to Jamaica.
