This biography from the Archives of AskART:

Otto Robert Gaensslen (1876-1942)

He was a native of Chicago, Illinois born on June 6, 1876 and died in Paris, France on October 26, 1942.   After  completing his education in Chicago he studied art under several well known teachers at the School of  the Art Institue of Chicago.  He then went  to Munich, Germany where he studied for 3 years. In 1900 he moved to Paris, France where he continued his studies and maintained an artist’s studio up to the time of his death.  His artistic  talents were expressed in both painting and sculpture.

He was the recipient of several honors at the Annual Exhibits of the Paris Academy.  Although living in Paris for more than 40 years, he retained his American citizenship; and during World War I was connected with the American Red Cross in charge of a distribution depot in Paris.  His death was rather mysterious-- ruled as accidental from a fall.
