Biography from Vern Carver & Beard Art Galleries:
Born in Nybro, Sweden, Henry Holnstrom emigrated to the United States when he was fifteen, traveling through New York, Chicago, and later to Minnesota.  He studied at the Minneapolis School of Art from 1924 to 1927.  Minnesota painters Cameron Booth and Anthony Angarola were Holmstrom's instructors.

While studying at the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1920s, Holmstrom met the artist Elof Wedin.  The two artists became friends and for a time, shared a studio on Franklin Avenue in Minneapolis.

During WWII, Holmstrom lived in San Francisco and worked as a pattern maker in the ship industry, returning to Minnesota in 1944.  In 1981, Holmstrom had a one-man show at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis.

Holstrom's work is represented in collections of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Minnesota Historical Society, and the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis.
