Known for his watercolor, Chinese painting and computer art, Waihang Lai was born in Hong Kong and lives and works in Hawaii.

A signature member of the American Watercolor Society and Philadelphia Watercolor Society, Lai serves as the president of the Kauai Watercolor Soicety and Kauai Orental Art Society.  He has exhibited his paintings in many regional shows in the United States, including the American Watercolor Society Annual Show at Canton Art Institute, Canton, Ohio; the Watercolor USA exhibition at Springfield Art Museum, Edward-Dean Museum, Phoenix Art Museum and Kauai Museum in Hawaii.  Lai is listed in Who's Who in American Art and Who's Who in American Education.

Waihang Lai graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and earned his M.A. degree in art from the Claremont Graduate University in California.  He taught at Arizona State University, Mauna Olu College and University of Hawaii Kauai Community College.

A recipient of the University of Hawaii Regents' Medal for Excellence in Teaching and the University of Texas NISOD Excellence Award for outstanding contribution to teaching, Lai retired in 2004 as an emeritus professor after thirty-four years of teaching at University of Hawaii Kauai Community College.
