This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Bartholomew Joseph Mako was born on June 19, 1890 in Budapest, Hungary.  Mako studied at the Budapest Academy of Fine Arts.  He came to Los Angeles via Buenos Aires in 1923 and began a career as a freelance artist.  During the 1930s he was an employee of the Federal Art Project.  He died in Desert Hot Springs, CA on Jan. 3, 1970.

Exh:  Int’l Art Exhibit (Paris), 1914; La Fiesta (LA), 1931; Public Works of Art Project (LA), 1934. 

Works held in Public Places:  Ventura High School Auditorium (frieze & statue); Hoover School, Whittier (panel); Hollywood High School (panel); Pasadena YMCA (mural); Burbank City Hall (eagle).
