A landscape and marine painter, he was born in Ohio in 1833, the son of Jacob Sloop (a carpenter) and Frances Harrison. He was active in Cincinnati (Hamilton) from 1850 to at least 1860 and had a studio until 1855 in the Art Union Building, but by 1859 he was working for William N. Cammack, a house and sign painter.
Jacob H. Sloop married Elizabeth J. Woodruff (1839-1905), and they had two children: Fanny H. Sloop (born 4 Aug 1861 in Cincinnati, died 14 Aug 1864 in Cincinnati) and Lida (showing 500 of 1031 characters). |
