This information is from Dave Nadel, grand-nephew of Hungarian born (but US citizen) artist Joseph Szekely.

Born: 11/11/1903
Died: 3/3/00

The following biography is from the back of a catalog of sale for a two-person group show at the Balzac Galleries, 449 Park Avenue in New York City, 1931-1932.  The cover page of the catalog is titled American Painters: Hayley Lever, Joseph Szekely, December 21st, 1931 to January 2nd, 1932. 

The biography reads: "Born at Miskolcz, Hungary-1903-came to New York in 1909, studied architecture at Columbia University and graduated from the University of Fine Arts, Budapest, worked in Paris and Munich.  Has had various exhibitions in America, exhibited also at the Grad Salon du Printemps, in Paris, 1929, and at the National Academy in New York, was included in the Representative Hungarian Exhibition.  In 1930 he painted a series of murals for the Board of Education in Newark.  Mr. Szekely is living and painting in New York."
