Born in San Francisco, California on January 22, 1890. Following graduation from Polytechnic High School, Marie Gleason studied at the Art Students League of San Francisco and for two years at the California School of Fine Arts; this was followed by study in New York City at the Art Students League and with Hans Hofmann as well as in Paris and Rome. Gleason taught in the public schools of the San Francisco Bay area. She was a resident of Oakland in 1910.
