This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in 1926 in Washington D.C., Georgia Mills Jessup became a strong force for art education in that city and also an accomplished painter, sculptor, muralist, ceramist, and collage artist.

Her family was artistic and talented, and by the mid-1980s, twenty-nine members of her family were supporting themselves with art and photography careers.

She apprenticed to the W.P.A. artist, Herman L. Walker and then earned a B.F.A. degree from Howard University in 1959 and an M.F.A. at Catholic University of America in ceramics, and the District of Columbia Teachers College.

For many years Georgia Jessup was Art Supervisor of the Washington D.C. public school system, and founded the program "The World Is Your Museum," the forerunner of the Capitol Children's Museum.

Much of her painting had abstract linear patterns with bright colors stirring of emotions and with symbols of urban life.
