Biography from American Eagle Fine Art:
Ora Coltman was born in 1858 in Shelby, Ohio, and died in 1940. He lived most of his life in Shelby, but had an address in Cleveland, which is perhaps where he had a studio.
He was a painter, block printer, sculptor, muralist, architect, teacher, and writer.
He Studied at the Art Students League in New York City, as well as at the Academie Julian in Paris. Additional study, Margadey Schule, Munich.

He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1900, 1903, 1911, 1929, 1932. Additionally, at the Society of Independent Artists, and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, 1925-32.

He was a member of the Cleveland Society of Artists and Cleveland Printmakers.
His works are exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngtown, Oh. and at the Cleveland Foundation of Art. Additionally he has done murals for the Cleveland Public Library, which he also has works.

It is important to note that he worked in Provincetown, Massachusetts often and did painting and woodcut block prints of the area in Provincetown, and is considered a minor member of the Provincetown school of painters.

As well he has done several public monument sculptures in Cleveland and was an architect in design of buildings in and around Cleveland, Ohio.

Biography from Butler Institute of American Art:
Landscape and figure painter in watercolor, pastel and oil; muralist and printmaker; born in Shelby in 1858.

Ora Coltman moved in the mid-1880's to Cleveland where he joined the Art Club and later helped to found the Water Color Society of Cleveland. In 1895 and 1896 he studied with Carroll Beckwith at the Art Students League in New York. Throughout the 1890's he was also listed in Cleveland directories as a designer for Joseph Carabelli who was Cleveland's leading manufacturer of cemetery monuments.

In 1901 and 1902 he studied in Paris under Jean Paul Laurens. Thereafter, except for summers in Zoar and Provincetown, MA, he remained active in Cleveland until 1937 or after.

He was an influential member of the regionalist "Cleveland School" of the 1920's;

Ora Coltman died on July 3,1940.
