The brother and student of animal and figure sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Louis spelled his name differently (St. Gaudens). He also studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1899 and settled in Cornish, New Hampshire where he was a member of the colony of artists there.

His work, "Lions," is in the Boston Public Library.
