This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Raymond Bayless was born in Oakland, CA on Feb. 13, 1920. Bayless settled in Los Angeles with his family in 1925. As a teenager he worked in book and magazine illustration. Self-taught, his forte has been realistic still lifes in the trompe l’oeil manner, Turneresque landscapes, and science fiction fantasy paintings. He was active as an artist until his death in Los Angeles on May 25, 2004.

Member: San Fernando Professionals Club; Laguna Beach AA; Painters & Sculptors of LA.

Exh: Santa Monica Art Festival, 1939; Greek Theater (LA), 1954; Painters & Sculptors of LA, 1954 (3rd prize); Laguna Beach AA, 1956 (1st prize), 1957 (solo), 1960; Brentwood Public Library, 1995.

Works Held : Aerospace Hall of Fame (San Diego); Bank of America Collection; U.S. Air Force & Navy Art Collections; U.S. Nat’l Air & Space Museum (Smithsonian Inst.)
