| | Born in Mill Valley, CA on July 19, 1908. “Betty” O’Shaughnessy moved to San Francisco in 1912 into a house on Vallejo Street where she lived for the rest of her life. Her father was city engineer who had a dam in Yosemite named for him. During the 1920s she studied at the CSFA and was active in the local art scene into the 1940s. Due to her patronage to the arts, Mayor Willie Brown proclaimed July 19, 1999 as "Elizabeth O'Shaughnessy Day." A spinster, she died three weeks later on Aug. 13. An oil painter, her subjects include landscapes, still lifes, and coastal scenes. Member: SF Women Artists; AFA; CHS.
