| | Born in Chicago, IL on Sept. 19, 1899. Van Rensselaer came to Los Angeles with his family in 1902. After graduating from Manual Arts High School, he became a cartoonist for the Examiner in 1918 and later established his own commercial art firm which he operated until 1934 or longer.
