Madeline Bassarear was a skilled landscape painter and long-time friend of her mentor, Caroline Bell. She participated in many exhibitions and gatherings at the Bell studio with other Peconic Bay Impressionists.
A member of the Old Town Arts & Crafts Guild in Cutchogue, L.I., Bassarear lived for at least part of her life in Greenport, Long Island. Bassarear was a member of the Tuesday Art Club with Joseph Beckwith Hartranft, Larry Waitz, George McAdams, John Kaelin, Gil Miner and others.
