Born in Znaim, Moravia (Czech Republic), Eduard Charlemont studied at the Vienna Academy. His precocious talent was recognized early, and he began to exhibit his works while still a student at the age of 15. After finishing his studies, Charlemont visited Italy, studied in Venice, traveled in Germany and France, and finally settled in Paris during the 1870s.
