Maurice Desmond (1944)
Maurice Desmond is a painter who was born in County Louth in northeast Ireland and lives in Cork (southern, Ireland). His mediums are oil, acrylic and mixed mediums. His subjects are primarily landscapes. His style is expressionist.
He studied at Limerick School of Art under Jack Donovan. He also taught at the school for one year after graduating. He has been painting full-time since.His stated influences are Constable, Courbet, Turner and Patrick Collins (1911 - 1994).
He has been showing his work in solo and group exhibitions continuously since 1966 in Ireland and internationally. In total there have been over 45 major shows to date. The locations outside Ireland include London, England (1990); Krakow, Poland (1993); Zurich, Switzerland; (1995) and Alytus, Lithuania (1998).
His work is in public, private and corporate collections. The public collections include the University of Limerick; Crawford Municipal Art Gallery, Cork; Crescent College Limerick; University College Cork; the Alytus Contemporary Art Gallery, Lithuania and the Cork Opera House.
