This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data
compared to the extensive information about American artists.
Jack Donovan (b.1934)
He was born in Limerick and has exhibited extensively throughout Ireland with The Taylor Galleries, The RHA, Limerick City Art Gallery and the Cross Gallery Dublin among others. Donvan’s style draws inspiration from Spanish artist’s such as Picasso and Velasquez. His most recent solo exhibition with the Cross Gallery described the artist’s “…carefully composed theatrical characters as their spare and stylised settings… fraught with naivety of style and boldness of colour… [with] an undercurrent of darkness…”. Donovan is the former Head of Limerick School of Art and Design, where he was mentor to John Shinnors among others. In 2004 he was the subject of a major retrospective at the Limerick City Art Gallery.
