David Henry Evans (1929-1988)

Born in London on 20 December 1929.  Studied at Central School of Arts and Crafts in London under Keith Vaughan (1912-1977).  Early in his career he showed photo montages at Gallery One and gained several commissions; these included a design for the Hollywood Room in the Observer Film Exhibition, 1956, and a mural for the Soup Kitchen, Knightsbridge.  He began painting watercolors and gouaches in 1967, two years before he settled at Potash Farm, Dallinghoo, Suffolk where he and his partner set up in self-sufficiency.  They were not shown until 1973, when his work was included in a mixed show at Deben Gallery, Woodbridge. Suffolk.  In 1975 his work was included in summer show at Redfern Gallery, where he held solo exhibitions from 1979, after showing one-man at McMurray Gallery for three years, 1976-7-8.  After his death in a road accident in Suffolk in 1988, Redfern gave him a small memorial show in 1988.
