Daniel Girault was born in Saint-Brieuc, France in 1945. Girault is a self-taught artist who learned to paint by watching and working with artists in his native Brittany. At an early age, his talent was obvious, and the older, more experienced artists encouraged him to continue his work. When Girault learned to paint in his early childhood, he never thought he would one day make a living from it.
In order to enlarge his scope, Girault followed the path of the Impressionists. He went to Provence to experiment with different sources of light. He thought this aesthetic passion would nourish his spiritual, not his material ambitions. After many
years of hesitating, calling into question, and testing, he at last
decided definitively to establish himself in the studio and admit that
painting is a lifetime choice. Since then he has worked unceasingly to
plow his furrow, to develop his style, to perfect his stroke and to
explore his surroundings.
Self-taught, his only option (and what an
option!), he was forced to enter deeply into himself. He emerged from
this internal sojourn with love for Provence and for sun life France.
From the deepest part of Brittany, he sang nostalgically of the colors
and the lights of the South of France.
In addition to his passion for
painting, Daniel Girault looks after handicapped children. Far from
reflecting this problematic and painful world, his painting on the
contrary, expresses a great discipline in construction, a consistent
style, a cohesive whole and a properly balanced composition.
Girault has had numerous exhibits throughout France, as well as Belgium, Canada, Germany, Japan and the United States. He is a member of the Salon Des Artistes Francais and the Salon des Independants.
